IB research is pursued both at the Department of Marketing and at the Pan-European Institute. Core-area research fields include:
- innovations and knowledge management on international business markets
- international growth and international entrepreneurship
- integration in international mergers and acquisitions
- corporate social responsibility in international business
- Pan-European Institute

Innovations
Launches of radical innovations, technology transfer to underdeveloped countries and knowledge transfer in inter-firm relationships are the main foci of interest. These areas are additionally integrated into a specific Master’s degree program with the theme Global Innovation Management (GIM).
International Growth and International Entrepreneurship
Small and medium-sized foci have traditionally formed the main research perspectives of growth and management in international business. Several PhD researchers are working in this field. In addition, post-doc research across the globe is active.
International Mergers and Acquisitions
Several departments at TSE engage in research on mergers and acquisitions. The IB focus rests on the integration process that takes place after a company has been bought. Our researchers are actively networking with academic colleagues both within the school and with colleagues elsewhere in Finland.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
CSR-research is pursued on the degree, PhD and post-doc level, and has been the focus of several theses. Areas of research include the role of business in conflict situations and stakeholder dialogues.
Pan-European Institute
The Pan-European Institute focuses on analysing the economic development in the Baltic Sea region and in the neighbouring countries of the European Union, especially in Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine. PEI’s research activities and projects have recently concentrated on issues such as FDI, regional development, innovation, and energy in the Baltic Sea region. The PEI staff has also frequently acted as experts for both Finnish and foreign institutions, such as the Prime Minister’s Office, several Finnish ministries and the Parliament of Finland, the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the United Nations.
