Economic Monitoring

Pan-European Institute's economic monitoring covers four main areas.

Baltic Rim Economies

The Pan-European Institute follows the economic development of the Baltic States, Poland, St. Petersburg, Leningrad region and Kaliningrad region. The results are published bimonthly in the Baltic Rim Economies (BRE) review and the institute's website. In addition to these regional reports, there are also a number of expert articles that cover important themes such as economic development, business and environmental issues relating to the Baltic Sea region. Our review has become an important media for leading policymakers and representatives of business life as well as others interested in the development of the Baltic Sea region. Previous writers include ministers, commissioners and business representatives.

Russian regions

The Pan-European Institute follows the economic development of Russian regions and regional centres. PEI publishes infomation packages which are aimed at foreign investors and companies interested in these markets.

International operations of Russian firms

Several Finnish companies are moving their labour intensive processes from Finland to Russia. Conversely, there are some 2,000 Russian companies registered in Finland that are run by a Russian citizen. This is a clear indication that the significance of Russian companies is increasing in Finland. It is important to analyse the impact that the internationalisation of Russian firms has on Finnish business. The Pan-European Institute follows the international operations of Russian firms and publishes reports on the subject twice a year.

Emerging markets in Europe

The Pan-European Institute follows the economic development in the emerging markets of Europe. PEI publishes information packages which are aimed at foreign investors and companies interested in these markets.
