31 August 2011
On Tuesday 23 August, the corridors of Turku School of Economics were filled by new students beginning their Economics and Business Administration studies. The first-year students were eager to familiarise themselves with their new seat of learning.
Julia Pallasvuo from Vantaa and Nikolai Myllymäki from Helsinki do not yet know their new hometown well. Both arrived in Turku the night before their first day at the School. Before that, they had only visited the city when taking the entrance examination in June.
– I applied here for that very reason. I wanted to have a change of scene, Pallasvuo explains.
– My first impression is very positive, although I have not had a proper chance to get to know the city, Myllymäki assures.
Both say that they applied to Turku School of Economics because they had heard a lot of good things about it.
– I heard that the atmosphere here is good. In addition, they say that Turku is a pleasant city for students, Pallasvuo says.
A busy autumn in prospect
Tutors and older students have told the freshers that their autumn will be brimming with events and social gatherings.
– They say there will be all kinds of activities. I hope our studies will also start well during the autumn, Pallasvuo laughs.
New students expect their university studies to include interesting, diverse courses and project work. They are not afraid of hard work.
– I relish having the chance to take more responsibility for my studies and my life, Myllymäki concludes.
