Contents

In the course in-depth understanding of futures studies as a scientific field is explored. Ontology, epistemology, methodology and philosophy of science are among main contents. After the course you are familiar with futures research academic journals, researcher's procedures and “rules” which influence scientific work. You get to know how to select futures research targets and methods, apply futures studies methods and conduct futures research. There are multiform learning modes, Moodle and Second Life are used as learning environments.

The course starts on 2 november in the Second Life (you'll get detailed instructions beforehand). Study days are organised in Tampere during 15-16 November, where the last day (16.11.) is meant for the students conducting 8 credits. The course ends on 26 November (3 cr) or 10 January 2011 (8 cr).

Requirements

Performing "Tutu2: Tulevaisuudentutkimuksen tieteelliset menetelmät" or "Futures2: Futures Research Methods" is demanded prior to this course.
