Global Integration

The objects of research at Turku School of Economics are

  • the European Union and the development of its institutions
  • Finland’s adaptation to global and European integration
  • the internal market of the European Union as part of the world economy and global integration development
  • the impact of integration on relative benefit, specialization and regional structure (the ‘new economic geography’), and
  • economic development of Russia and its relations with the EU.

TSE also participates in research that aims at the development of globalization’s new paradigm. In this respect, global competition is seen in terms of operations rather than products.

Integration and the EU also represent a central element in the public choice top-level unit research programme 2008–2013 of Turku School of Economics, the University of Turku and the University of Hamburg.

International research community

Turku School of Economics engages in broad international research cooperation. Connections with business life have been generated via ETLA and EVA.

Of the European networks, those that are pivotal are the Centre for Economic Policy Research, CEPR (London) ja CESifo (Munich), the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) and the public choice standing group (Leiden).

In the cooperation going on between universities, integral partners are the University of Hamburg, the University of Bayreuth, the Graduate Institute for International Studies (GIIS) Geneva, the University of Helsinki and the University of Turku.

Research facilities: Centre for European Policy Studies, CEPS (Brussels); the Swedish Institute for European Policy Studies, SIEPS (Stockholm); and the Research Institute of the Finnish Economy, ETLA.
