In the change in service structures, municipalities, associations and welfare management businesses are giving attention to economic thinking and management skills as well as the assessment of the influence and effectiveness of services. Turku School of Economics supports the production of cost-effective and client-oriented welfare field and public services with multidisciplinary research and educational activities.
This area of emphasis links with TSE's various subject and separate departments, in addition to supporting the Business Knowledge in Welfare Field Master’s degree programme being implemented at the Pori Unit. Turku School of Economics is also an educational and development partner for the management, superiors and specialists connected with the welfare sector.
Main areas of research in this area of emphasis, the welfare field and public services, are:
- social and public health care information systems
- questions related to the development of market terms and conditions as well as subjecting the market to competition
- futures research and anticipation in the welfare field
- the management and work-related well-being of welfare field organizations
- welfare field entrepreneurship

TSE we (Welfare Economics)
TSE’s Pori Unit coordinates the welfare management and public services area of emphasis at Turku School of Economics as a whole. The TSE we (Welfare Economics) specialist team functions in the unit, implementing research and education on welfare field-based business know-how in addition to looking after the design and development of the master’s program in the field.
