The aim of the Eco-Information Society: the Criteria and Operational Possibilities project (eKnowledge) was to study the ecological, cultural, social and economic criteria and potentials of sustainable development in the information society. During the first stage of the project, the researchers analysed the criteria of sustainable development in the Finnish information society.
At the second stage of the eKnowledge the researchers created sustainable development indicators for the information society. Finland Futures Research Centre carried out this research in co-operation with the Finnish Environment Institute, the VTT Building and Transport and the Tampere University of Technology. The final stage of the project is designed to produce environmental friendly innovations which were tested and applied within a pilot project in co-operation with two representative spearhead programmes of the Finnish national strategy for Information Society: the “Personal Navigation (NAVI)” and the “Telework” programme (eWork).
