Promotion of the Efficient Use of Renewable Energies in Developing Countries (REEPRO)

The REEPRO project is motivated by the fact that poor households in Developing Countries often lack access to basic energy services. The proposed project shall lead to the provision of energy services to those currently un-served or underserved by higher quality energy services on the basis of an introduction of renewable energies and energy efficiency.

The project is funded by the European Commission within the COOPENER Programme. It focuses on the commercialisation of renewable energy technologies in the partner countries. Therefore potential (micro-) entrepreneurs will be trained in basic business and management skills to develop their own renewable energy based business.

Objectives

Provision of energy services to those currently un-served or underserved by high quality energy services by the promotion of renewable energies by

  • Development of adapted renewable energy training materials and performance of trainings for three levels:
    1. Level: Renewable energy experts, Trainer and multiplier (scientists, engineers, architects etc. with a higher education degree as well as local and national government representatives)
    2. Level: Technicians with basic understanding of engineering subjects
    3. Level: Community stakeholders with often very basic education level
  • Promotion of renewable energies in selected communities by the implementation of show cases – pilot applications of renewable energy technologies
  • Encouraging local entrepreneurs to become active in the renewable energy sector

Partner organisations:

  • Coordinator: Deutsche Gesellschaft für Solarenergie e.V. International
  • Solar Energy Society, German Section (DGS) (Germany)
  • European Forum for Economic Co-operation (Germany)
  • Finland Futures Research Centre, Turku School of Economics
  • Technology Research Institute (Laos)
