Intellectual Capital as a Driver of National Economy in Finland (SAIKA)

The project "Intellectual Capital as a Driver of National Economy in Finland (SAIKA)" aims to build a reliable basis for theories, indicators and calculations (productivity function) to measure the impacts of intellectual capital on a national level.

The study tests various calculation methods for the productivity and value assessment of intellectual capital presented in the literature of the field and gives recommendations for the measurement of the impacts of intellectual capital.

Based on conducted analyses, methodology for the assessment of intellectual capital is created. The created methods are used to analyse the economic impacts of intellectual capital in Finland and other OECD countries in 2001-2007. The background data consists of national-level statistics from OECD, Eurostat, and IMD, supplemented with specific financial statements information and other statistics about Finnish companies from Statistics Finland (Tilastokeskus) and Balance Consulting Oy.

The SAIKA project is funded by Tekes – the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation during 2010-2011. The project is co-ordinated by the Finland Futures Research Centre and conducted in co-operation with researchers from Tampere University of Technology and Lappeenranta University of Technology.
