SMILE is a FP7-project, which is coordinated by Finland Futures Research Centre. The consortium participants have developed tools for analysing the different dimensions of sustainability in a FP6 ongoing project DECOIN (www.decoin.eu). The objective of the SMILE project is to further develop and to apply these tools in order to illustrate and analyse trade-offs and synergies between different unsustainable trends identified in the EU sustainable development strategy.
The assessment takes place between different dimensions of sustainable development (economic, social and environmental) through several case studies. In addition, improvement possibilities for implementation of sustainable development will be studied at different regional levels. Based on the results, policy recommendations will be formulated.
The SMILE project is coordinated by Finland Futures Research Centre. Other partners are:
- Parthenope University of Naples (Italy),
- Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain),
- Free University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands),
- The Macaulay Land Use Research Institute (UK),
- Institute for Economic Forecasting (Romania) and
- Statistics Finland.
The project is funded by the European Union during 1.1.2008–30.6.2011.
