Vision Process of National Software Business Cluster

The goal of the project "Vision Process of National Software Business Cluster" was to carry out a vision and strategy process of National Software Business Cluster. Finland Futures Research Centre carried out the project together with the software business expertise network and firms of the software branch. The project took place in 2004-2005.

Finnish software business has grown strongly over the last couple of years. In 1999 The Centre of Expertise for Software Product Business was founded. The objective of the centre is to develop competitive innovative environments for the internationalisation of new products and companies. The Centre of Expertise for Software Product Business is part of the Helsinki Region Centre of Expertise programme implemented over the period 1999-2006.

In order to develop software business a “National Software Business Cluster” project was launched in 2003. The project was a collaboration together with four regional Centres of Expertise (Oulu, Jyväskylä, Tampere & Turku).

The goals of the project were:

  1. Development and implementation of a national collaboration- and leadership model
  2. Selection and definition of key areas of the vision and definition and implementation of the actions associated with them
  3. Specification of the strategic architecture of a national software business expertise network and development and implementation of the actualisation plan
  4. Co-ordination and implementation of existing national-level measures; mapping software firms, e-service and internationalisation.
