Studying

In economic studies, financial economics and international economic questions are given emphasis. The aim is to give students an overall economic outlook and especially familiarity with both monetary economic policy and international economics. These provide the readiness to work in specialist and management positions in, for example:

  • companies
  • financial institutions
  • industrial and commercial organisations
  • research institutes
  • the public sector

Research subjects for economics are the overall market economy activity and the operations of businesses and other economic agents as well as the public sector. Important research topics for comprehensive examination are, among others:

  • economic balance and growth
  • financial and foreign exchange markets
  • public choice
  • the development of international trade
  • the economic integration of Europe
  • globalisation
  • national economic policy

Economics thus analyses the decision-making behaviour of, for instance, business enterprises, households, financial institutions and other “micro” decision-makers. Economic micro theory is therefore closely connected with business sciences. In economic studies at TSE, corporate economics is emphasized more than in studies at social science orientated universities. Macro theory is also an indispensable part of an economist’s core know-how.
