Cooperation and expertise 

 

The instructors and researchers within the Department engage in active cooperation in the areas of research, instruction and professional expertise with external organizations. Our specialists participate within the context of their own research areas in, for instance,

  • research projects with specialists from other universities
  • contracted research conducted in business enterprises
  • consultations
  • educational and training tasks in companies and other organizations

International publishing activity

The Department’s researchers enjoy an active role in international academic publication operations. Professor Kari Lukka functioned during the years 2000–2005 as the editor-in-chief of the European Accounting Review, and Professor Markus Granlund remains its deputy editor-in-chief. In addition, the Department’s entire group of professors and researchers function as reviewers for various periodicals, such as Accounting, Organizations and Society, International Journal of Accounting, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Management Accounting Research.

Cooperating universities

Many international researchers and lecturers visit our Department each year from cooperating universities round the world, and members of our staff likewise visit foreign universities. The cooperation in research has generated collaboration in teaching as well, since many of our English-language courses host lectures given by our international partners. Of the cooperating universities, the following may be mentioned: the University of Oxford,  University of Manchester, Copenhagen Business School, George Washington University, Stockholm University, Gothenburg University, Michigan State University and China-Europe International Business School (CEIBS).

Corporate cooperation

Our Department has important relationships with professional interests such as Financial Supervision and the PricewaterhouseCoopers and KPMG auditing agencies.The specialists from these auditing agencies have taken part in the planning and realization of auditing instruction. Every second year, a seminar in financial administration is organized in cooperation with an official auditing agency, in which connection a scholarship is distributed to the author of the best Master’s thesis in the accounting field.

Our Department’s staff engage in abundant research, lecturing and consultation cooperation with many other Finnish firms, such as Nokia PLC, Metso, ABB, TOK-Yhtymä, Leaf, SAS Institute Oy, Teleste and Raisio.
