The research profile of the Department of Accounting and Finance also comprises research in the grounds of the philosophy of science based on accounting as well as those of methodologies.
One particular point of emphasis in financial statement information and corporate financing is found in market-based empirical research in accounting: in other words, how the markets use the financial statement information generated by business enterprises. Research also touches on behavioural science funding. A second area of emphasis is international accounting, in which comparisons between various final accounts standards are performed, for instance, and the effects of various standards are analysed in connection with, among other things, corporate governance. From the accompanying links, you can find more information about ongoing research projects and publications.
Our department has up-to-date databases in use, from which you can access stock market data from the Helsinki Stock Exchange. Regarding the international data, the Thomson database deserves mention, as it contains comprehensive internationally-based corporate and market materials. Students can also obtain the right to the use of these databases. Instructions in the use of the Thomson and Helsinki Stock Exchange databases can be found from the Library Information Service pages: go to section Databases -> other researcher materials.
