The research focusing on health care information systems began in 1997 with a project in cooperation with University of Turku and Turku University Central Hospital. In this project financed by the Academy of Finland the role of Turku School of Economics was focused on the evaluation of health care information systems. The development of evaluation methods suitable for health care is still one of the main research objectives. In the end of the 1990's many projects about health care information systems were conducted in participation with, for example, joint municipal boards in health care of Paimio-Sauvo and Kaarina-Piikkiö, the macropilot of Satakunta, the City of Turku, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland and Sonera.
