The research concerning network economics started in the late 1980’s with the dissertation of interorganisational information systems conducted by Ph.D. Reima Suomi. The key research question is how information networks can support the interaction between enterprises, communities and consumers. In the end of 90’s the focus of research moved to electronic commerce. The first dissertation about this subject was published in 2001.
