Based on scientific merit, honorary doctorates will be conferred on:
Nicole Coviello
Professor, Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada
In recognition of her internationally recognized research at the interface of marketing, international business and entrepreneurship as well as her significant contributions to developing the field of international entrepreneurship.
Dian Marie Hosking
Professor, Utrecht University, and Professor, University of Tilburg, Netherlands.
In recognition of her co-operation with TSE and outstanding merits in renewing leadership theory. As early as late 70’s Hosking questioned the fit of the modern leadership paradigm created in the industrial organizations for explaining leadership in knowledge based virtual organizations of the information society. Hosking has published widely in top-journals and brought leadership thinking to the 21st century by introducing social-constructionist approach to studying power relations and leadership in organizations.
Kenneth A. Merchant
Professor, USC Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California, USA
In recognition of his original, path-breaking research in management accounting of highest quality and his notable publications with considerable impact, especially in the areas of management control and reward systems, as well as for his co-operation with the Turku School of Economics.
Slavica Singer
Professor, J.J. Strossmayer University of Osijek, Croatia
In recognition of her contribution to developing internationally networked entrepreneurial research and education and her significant achievements in bringing entrepreneurship into multi-faculty academic environments and for her extensive collaboration with Turku School of Economics.

Seppo Honkapohja
Member of the board of directors, Bank of Finland
In recognition of his internationally significant career as a professor. Honkapohja is one of the world's leading economists and, as a member of the board of directors of the Bank of Finland, has used his theoretical expertise with distinction. As a Professor of Economics at the Turku School of Economics, he reformed the research profile and teaching of the subject.
Reijo Karhinen
CEO, OP-Pohjola Group, Honorary Counsellor
In recognition of his achievements as a significant and long-serving influence in the field of finance, as CEO of the market-leading banking group OP-Pohjola, and of his work as Chairman of the Board of the Federation of Finnish Financial Services when the industry was experiencing a global crisis. Karhinen was Turku School of Economics alumni of the year in 2007.
Lasse Kurkilahti
Honorary Counsellor
In recognition of his considerable achievements as a CEO and developer of multinational companies. As a business executive, particularly at the helm of Nokian Tyres, Kurkilahti has shown how investment in good human resources policy and the motivating involvement of employees in operational development positively influences the success of the company, and has greatly rewarded the company. As Chairman of the School's Alumni Association, he has significantly developed relations between the School and the business community. Kurkilahti was the School's alumni of the year in 2005
Hans Langh
Managing Director, Oy Langh Ship Ab, Honorary Counsellor
In recognition of his long and successful entrepreneurship in a difficult field of business in the Turku economic area, and as a spokesman for Finnish shipping. Through his innovation, Langh has provided a positive and encouraging example of entrepreneurship and how to start out as an entrepreneur. As a mentor and teacher in executive education at the Turku School of Economics, he has also conveyed his expertise to students of the School.
