Names in the Economy IV

International symposium, Turku 14–16 June 2012

The fourth Names in the Economy symposium is organized in the beautiful city of Turku in Finland. Turku is the oldest city in Finland, and it was the European Capital of Culture 2011. Turku is a nationally remarkable harbour, trade and university city. The population is about 176 000. Please, click here for more information about Turku.

The symposium will be hosted by Turku School of Economics at the University of Turku at 14 - 16 June 2012. The conference theme, Names and cultures in a commercial environment, brings out the interdisciplinary nature of the role of names in our global world.

The symposium is a continuation to the former symposia held in Antwerp in 2006, in Vienna in 2007 and in Amsterdam in 2009. The objectives of the Names in the Economy are to extend interdisciplinary dialogue between linguistic onomastics and other sciences, to find fresh ideas in the study of new fields of onomastics and to raise the scientific relevance of the study of commercial naming.

We look forward to meeting you in Turku – the city of long history, active cultural life and a unique river side!
