Our main area of expertise is helping to create business out of science. In collaboration with our partners, we support knowledge-intensive, university-based businesses in their process to gain growth. Examples our our Science to Business activities include the Business Development Laboratory and active participation in the TULI ("From Bench to Business") program.
In addition, our work consists of a selection of complementing activities within the area of innovations:
Business opportunities and business models
We provide business development services to our clients in order to help them change their existing business or create entirely new business. We have developed new business model scenarios for clients trying to find a new direction for their businesses, as well as adapted and updated existing business models to correspond to changes in the marketplace.
Research in ubiquitous computing
We conduct technological research on a range of topics within the domain of ubiquitous computing. Research topics include:
- Services utilizing converged network infrastructures
- Flexible spectrum management in wireless networks
- Robust communication technologies
- Agile design methodologies for embedded ICT system development
Visual recognition systems
Ultra low-power RF structures
Novel devices and circuit structures
Product and service concepts and their commercialization
An important area where we provide assistance to our clients is refining ideas and inventions into new product and service concepts. This process requires deep understanding of the client's business as well as of the prevailing dynamics in the marketplace. Possibilities to enter international markets are taken into account all the way from the beginning.
Entrepreneurship and business know-how education
We organize a course package in Industrial Economics for Master's students along with a course package in Technology Entrepreneurship at the Department of Information Technology of the University of Turku. Furthermore, we participate in the development of a Pan-Nordic ICT Master's program. In 2010, we started an MBA for Innovation and Growth program, which is mainly targeted at PhD students.
Research services in the field of media business
We carry out different types of research projects in media business, for example The Graphic Industry Economic Report (examination of the economic status of Finnish print media companies, including comparison with earlier development), Expert Services in Marketing Communications Research (examination of the structure and development of the Finnish marketing communications business) and Study of Salaries in the Marketing Communications Business (a comprehensive report of the salary level and development within the branch, with an aim to create transparency).
