The Finland Futures Research Centre realises safety theme-related research and development projects oriented towards the future.
The topic of safety is approached in these projects by considering what sort of anticipatory futures-based work could be done: how factors recognized as potentially threatening to safety in the future could be influenced to the extent that the problems anticipated would already be eliminated before they develop into actual threats.
The Research Group offers:
- Futures workshops applicable to the accumulation of specialist information, in which experts can, by utilizing futures research methods, create future images for the desired thematic area.
At its shortest, a futures workshop can be implemented
over the duration of one day.
- Futures-based reviews founded on the centre’s cooperative organization expertise and newest trend-related data from the Finland Futures Research Centre’s research community
- Long-term futures-based processes implemented with the Delphi method, in which specialist data are comprehensively gathered and processed with regard to the future of a chosen thematic field
Our ongoing as well as previously implemented projects with safety themes have been quite different indeed from each other, both in duration and content. Our clients have mainly been actors working under the Finnish Ministry of the Interior and Ministry of Defence. Assignments have varied from one-day futures workshops to anticipation processes lasting several years. Content-wise, virtually all projects realized have been united by the fact that none of them have been in the form of listing traditional threats and planning actions aimed at reacting to these threats.
As time goes on as well, the Finland Futures Research Centre shall strive to direct primary attention to the anticipation-related work of the safety field. The goal is to maintain a continuous stream of futures field research and development projects and position the Finland Futures Research Centre to become renowned as a partner for actors in the safety field.
