Challenges and Prospects of Cross Border Cooperation in the context of EU Enlargement (CBCED)

An FP6 project with consortium of seven partners .The project identified sources of threat and opportunity for entrepreneurship in a broadly based selection of different types of border regions. Research was carried out in 2006-2008. Website

The Baltic Sea region as Finland's economic environment

This report, commissioned by the Secreteriat of the Economic Council, examined the Baltic Sea region as Finland's economic environment from various perspectives. It shows how Finland benefits from the Baltic Sea region in terms of trade, investments and immigration. The report describes the current status and future outlook for the region, especially from the point of view of Russia's future development. Report on the website of Prime Minister's Office.

Development of Russian external economic relations

The research on the development of Russia's external economic relations, funded by the Finnish Ministry of Education, concentrated on the following themes: the impact of EU enlargement on the economic relations between the EU and Russia, the development of economic relations between Finland and Russia, and the internationalisation and foreign investments of Russian enterprises.

ENTLEARN

The Pan-European Institute was the administrative coordinator in this EU-financed project, with the aim of accomplishing research on entrepreneurial learning, comparing results with a survey of formal and informal entrepreneurship training programmes, providing results in print and web, and proposing a model programme for European vocational examination of entrepreneurship. The project was carried out in 2004-2007.

Growth Triangles in Regions Bordering the Enlarged European Union

The objective of this project was to examine European regional development processes in order to draw conclusions about the factors that facilitate and/or impede growth-triangle type of developments in Europe. Project introduction (pdf)

Industrial Restructuring in the NIS: experience of and lessons from the new EU Member States

An FP6 project with several partners, coordinated by WIIW. The principal aim of this project (INDEUNIS) was to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date analysis of the recent experience with economic transition, industrial restructuring and integration in both new member states of the EU and the selected newly independent states, in particular with respect to the role played by trade integration, foreign direct investments and European integration. Survey on expertise of Russian staff employed by Finnish construction companies and their subsidiaries in both Finland and Russia

The objective of the research was to study the expertise of Russian construction staff employed by Finnish construction companies, and to consider the expertise with relation to Finnish construction companies’ needs. The Russian training system in the field of construction business and construction economics was reviewed. The perspective for the survey twofold: 1) the expertise of Russian construction staff employed in Finland, and 2) the expected expertise of Russian construction staff working in Russia for the Finnish construction company. The research section conducted in Russia concentrated on the St. Petersburg area. The research was finished during summer 2007. Report (pdf)

SNARA (the Survey Networking Activity in Russia)

The project was funded by the Ministry of Education and was realised in cooperation with CSC (the Finnish IT centre for science). The primary objective of SNARA was to set up and maintain a dynamic partner network with Russia within higher education and research. The project aims at supporting and stimulating the future Finnish-Russian cooperation in the key sectors of mutual interest - in the field of ICT and higher education.
